I experienced
culture shock in Costa Rica when i realized they have roaming dogs EVERYWHERE! The barrios, la playa and it was accepted. I didn't see one dog on a leash. A person and a dog would pass each other on the sidewalk like nothing. I always crossed the street tho.In the end i realized they were all pretty nice, never aggressive and would let you pet them especially if you had some food.
I think it's funny that you posted this as culture shock. Where I'm from we have that problem and I remember when my cousins that live here visited El Salvador, they were as well shocked by the fact that dogs could just roam the streets like people. Most dogs aren't even owned by anyone and so they just live and find their own shelter. Some people are nice and feed them, but a lot of them just survive from eating garbage. It is a problem for the dogs as well for people, because these dogs don't have any vaccines so it is dangerous for humans. I think it is so sad that these poor dogs are homeless and you are right, most of them are so sweet. All they want is food and maybe a nice person to take them home. Some dogs have a home, but people just let them out and so they come and go. I think it's funny because they have their own little dog world and they have friends and probably parties when they go searching for food in the dumpsters. It's sad because the governments don't really do anything and the rights for animals are not really taken into consideration. It's cool that you went to Costa Rica; my grandam went and she loved it.
ReplyDeleteBy looking at this picture it remind me of my country Honduras because in my country you'll see dogs roaming around anywhere even at people house because they homeless and hungry too. Plus I remember when I went to Honduras my mother did not want me around or near any dogs because some are not clean. Sometime they really attack you because most dogs in my country are very aggressive. I remember the time when a dog walked in my aunts house in the middle of the night while everybody was sleeping and messed up her kitchen but the dog was looking for food while everybody in the house was sleeping and it was just a wired moment at the time because i thought it was a person trying to robbed the house but it was not person and I thanked it was just a dog in the house but this is a good culture shock picture.
ReplyDeleteOh I forgot to say the dog problem so bad that they don't leave garbage on streets...they put a crate about 5 inches up from ground so animals can't get into it..haha..
